Mark Twain once said the difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug. We think the same can apply to a company’s name – it’s important to have a name that fits our business and the value we bring to our partners.
While the name Parallels suited our team when our primary products featured desktop and server virtualization software, we have since grown to provide a wider range of products to different target audiences. To support a deeper focus into both our consumer and service provider areas, Parallels is becoming two distinct brands: our service provider team is now Odin, while our cross-platform solutions team will continue to use the name Parallels.
Our name might be changing, but the products our partners depend on and the value we bring to them will not. As Odin, we’ll continue to provide the latest technologies and first-class service to our partners, but with a narrowed scope on delivering the solutions that service providers need to succeed in the cloud. By fully and solely focusing on our service provider partners, we’ll be able to accelerate innovation and improve customer service.
So… Why Odin?
If you’ve ever named anything, you know that finding the right name is a challenge in itself. We knew we needed a name that not only suited our division’s broad offerings, but also fit our team’s values and culture. After a lot of white boarding – and a few heated...errr…we mean passionate debates – we landed on Odin.
In Norse mythology, Odin is a god known for being a seeker and giver of wisdom. He’s a complex guy, with many different characteristics along with a strong association with magic. Like Odin’s multiple personality aspects, we can’t be defined by a single trait or one product. Instead, we offer a variety of software and tools that allow our partners to succeed at any scale.
Also, Odin only has one eye. He sacrificed the other for wisdom.
We thought that was impressive.
As we transition to our new brand this year, you’ll notice:
- Same products with new names: Some product names will change to align with our new brand. For example, Parallels Automation will become Odin Service Automation. Over the course of upcoming product releases, we will update our user interfaces and documentation to include the new name and logo. Please see our FAQs for more details on product names.
- Same resources on new websites: Update your bookmarks to our new website address (www.odin.com), blog (blog.odin.com), and PartnerNet (partners.odin.com). If you are already following us on Twitter or Facebook, you will be automatically transitioned to Odin’s new handles. Whether or not you are already connected with us on LinkedIn, you will need to follow our new Odin company page to continue receiving LinkedIn updates.
- Same newsletters sent from a new email domain: The titles of our newsletters won’t change, and you will remain subscribed if you are already a subscriber.
